The Borough Council has decided upon dispensing with the services of its present gas manager, who was given the option ofJpkiug a month’s notice or go at once wife an extra month’s pay in his pocket. I Understand that the officer in question has decided to accept the latter alternative. The cause of the sudden determination on the part of the Council has not transpired. “Crabbed ago and youth” tried to make a match oj it the other day. He was fully fifty and she only just turned sixteen, and the friends on both sides ■were, therefore, very much surprised. An unexpected slip, however, occurred, as the bride expectant had neither parent nop gusrdian to give consent, and had to content herself with information that she would have to wait two years longer before the nuptial knot could bo tied.
