POOR JOHN CHINAMEN!

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. SiR,~Me Chinaman not much read papers, but see speeches very long, and ! one two letters from one Maclane and a Fielder. Me have friend Irishman, he say Maclane mean make clean, and that Maclane is cleaning out the Augean stables of the State. Hot nice job, very dirty, and me not wonder he try to throw some of the dirt on we poor Chinamen. If he only put it on bur cabbage gardens, we be pleased. Fielder very funny man. He say Chinaman good tradesman ; very little eat ; work very much, never waste money. He feel much ; Fielder not so good tradesman, not work so hard, eat

and drink too much. Ho he say make Chinaman pay tax or eat more, and waste his money more, then we get more tares. Poor Fielder, if he spend less money he have more to pay. tares with, and no so much complain and write foolish letters. Fielder say Chinaman dirty and he bring disease. Sometimes he do; sometimes Englishman, Scotchman, Irishman dirty too ; say not wash himself but once three months, and, he bring disease too. la a Fielder and a Maolane going to put a poll tar on dirty Englishmen, Scotchmen, and Irishmen ? They say no; Englishman, Scotchman, and Irishman eat much, Chinaman eats little. Poor Fielder and Maclane, they not very good make letters. Me thinks poll-tax good ; me say put it on men who don’t work hard, and on men who eat and drink.too much. .Me thinks they not think much neither, and perhaps poll-tax good thing to be put on empty heads that write much letters. Me thank yon put my letter in your paper and oblige, Bee Soun. : . ;
