THE YOUNG NEW ZEALAND POLITICAL ASSOCIATION.
(UNITED press ASSOCIATION.) ' Auckland, August 19. The “Young New Zealand Political Association,” which has been in view for several weeks, was successfully started on Tuesday evening by a general meeting of the members and others, held at Robson’s rooms. The constitution and rules drafted by the committee of gentlemen formed' for such purpose were considered seriatim, and after ■alight modification ! confirmed. The object of the Association is to encourage and foster public opinion and cultivate the minds of young men in political and public subjects. Mr J. A. Connell, who suggested the inauguration of the practical scheme, deserves great credit for his assiduity > in the matter, which “ the young colonials ” of Auckland have not been slow to appreciate by subscribing in large numbers. The annual subscription has been fixed at five shillings, and it is proposed that branches be established throughout the Colony, with their own presidents, vice-presidents, and officers. The following gentlemen were elected officers for the ensuing year :—President, Sir George Grey ; Vice-presidents, the Mayor and Mr J. A. Connell; Council, Messrs E. McManus, J. W. Luhning, J. M, Grace, N. McKay, J. B. Graham, 6. Sexton, G. Lindsay.
