LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the District Land Board was held at the Crown Lands Office, Provincial Buildings, yesterday morning. Present—Commissioner J. W. A. Merchant (chairman), Messrs A. Reese, H. Bunny, W. A. Fitzherbert, G. Beetham, M.H.R., and W. W. MoCardle. The schedule ol applications showed that since last meeting 321 acres 2 roods 11 perches had been applied for at an upset price of £358 15s 6d. Approved. Applications to be allowed to transfer os follows were approved Section 13, Block VIIL, Mangaone, from Mr B, Free to Mr D. McLaughin. Section 4, Block XII, Mangahao, from Mr W. H. Bennett to Mr E. J. Hughes. The selector of section 138 to 141, Hunterville, explained why he had not resided on the same. It was resolved that the Ranger be instructed to see that the regulations are complied with., The same action was taken with respect to the selector of section 94, Hunterville, who also made an explanation ; also the selectors of sections 62 and 63, Hunterville ;ol 80 to 107, Hunterville; of 46, Hunterville; of 99, Hunterville ; of 225 and 226, Hunterville ; and of 59, Hunterville. The selector of section 67, Mr W. A. Watt, wrote explaaing why he had not complied with the regulation as to residence. As the section had never been transferred from Mr Anty, the previous selector, to Mr Watt, although the transfer was approved by the Board. It was decided that the transfer from Mr Anty take place first, and the Ranger to see that the regulations are complied with afterward. The application of Mr P, Naughton to be allowed to capitalise on section 24, Block IX., Wairoa, was approved. The application of Mr J. R. Anderson to be allowed to lease reserve No, 78, Block IX., Pohangina, was referred to the local bodies and Harbor Board. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Napier, wrote with reference to including a piece of land in the Wellington Land District within a pastoral lease to be issued for a block of land in the Hawkes Bay Dis. trict adjoining the same. On the motion of Mr Bunny, seconded by Mr Beetham it was resolved to agree to the proposal ■ of the Napier Land Board. Mr J. S. Stowell applied to purchase a oneacre section in the Hastwell Village Settlement. On the motion of Mr Beetham, seconded by Mr McArdle, it was decided to put up section 15 at an upset price of £5, for cash. Mr E. Collotte applied for permission to use Reserve No. 43, Hastwell Village Settlement. Resolved to allow him the use of the section, the Board taking no responsibility as to compensation. Messrs Sawkenley and Thorny applied for 700 acres at Mikimiki as a small run. It was resolved that a reply be sent that sections will be laid off as soon as possible. On the motion of Mr Beetham, seconded by Mr MoCardle, it was decided that Government be requested to arrange with Mr Campbell as to a road through his land to give access to these sections. It was resolved to Issue a license to Mr R. Marsh to cut timber on the unsold sections in the Mangatainoka village settlement at a price to be fixed, and to empower him to erect a sawmill on one of the sections. The Alfredton Road Board applied for permission to use thirds to accrue on deferred payment and perpetual lease sections in their district to pay interest on a loan to be raised from the Government under the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886. On the motion of Mr MoCardle, seconded by Mr Bunny, it was decided that the application be agreed to on production of the plans of works to be done, and the Board being satisfied that the money has been expended, and the consent of interested selectors obtained. Mr R. H. Elliott wrote with reference to his application for a portion of Crown lands near his present lease. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Beetham, seconded by Mr MoCardle, that the land required be offered for sale as soon as possible. The Pahiatua Road Board submitted plans showing the proposals for expending thirds in their, district. Proposals approved, subject to their being in order.
