SPEECH BY THE GOVERNOR.
CmusTcnuEcu, November 8. His Excellency the Governor visited the Industrial Association- rooms to-day, ami was received by the President (Mr r. Jenkins). Daring bis reply to the address of welcome, his Excellency said—l was not aware until I entered this room that so many articles were manufactured in .New Zealand. I see around me a large number of articles, and it appears to me that are of uncommon excellence, but whilst 1 thus eulogise my friends who produce these articles, we must think of the consumers; and the Industrial Association must bear m mind that the production of a useful article at the most moderate price will ever he m the minds of the consumers, and will be a great inducement for them to make use of New Zealand productions. Of course if it can be shown by those who are I may say inimical to local productions that you get a better article elsewhere for a smaller price, it can scarcely be expected that they will view with favor an article produced by this Aasociation or by those associated with it. I only refer to this point because I consider that it is one of the essential conditions on which, as no doubt you all agree, the proceedings of this Association should be conducted.
