WHOLESALE ROBBERY OF LETTERS.

Invercargill, November 12.

A young married man named Frederick H. Dale, employed for a number of years as a letter-carrier, was charged at the Police Court to-day with stealing a letter containing three £1 Dank notes, and was remanded for eight days. The accused, who is wellknown from his connection with the Oddfellows and Volunteers, admitted the offence to the postmaster and police. In his house were found 287 letters, 149 circulars, 134 newspapers, 192 book packets, 24 postal cards—a total of 786. It is supposed that the bulk of these were left at the house by Dale through sheer neglect of duty. The accused was looked upon as a very trustworthy man, but it appears has been drink, j n g too much lately. Steps will be taken as soon as possible te deliver the delayed matter. Twenty-two letters had been opened, and it ia expected that Dale has appropriated the contents when valuable. Invercargill, November 24. At the Police Court this morning, Fredk, H.
