MINERS’ STRIKE.

The Coal Pit Heath miners have bees on strike for the last week. It was thought they would go to work this morning, bat uo one roiled op when tbb whistle blew. The men have bren paid 3s per ton hitherto and de* □sanded 4s, . The Company offered Ss 6d, and the men then asked that .the mine should be worked on the “ cabling ” system, by which .the m.n should arrange to change their places by working f6r every three months. The manager objected to takng the power eff bis hands in regard to working. Nine Directors supported the manager, and said they would close the mine if the men refused the offers made. It is nil supposed the men will go to work to-morrow or the next day, as.they ars divide 1 in opinion on the matter. In consequence of the strike the e.s. Taupo Has been delayed since last Thursday. The Mnrray bad sent North with only four trucks of coal. The Maori, Charles Edward, and Yimaru are now waitiug for coal. The Koranui will come in to-uight, but there is no coal for her. The Taupo is uot expected to get away before to morrow.
