CRICKET.
A family cricket match took place yesterday, on the Baain Reserve, between the juveniles related to Mr E. Dixon and a few of his personal friends. The match was got up with the aim of giving tho youngsters a thorough good day’s outing. A Jargo ’bus bad been engaged to take tho players, umpires, and scorers from the residence of Mr Dixon to tho ground, where sides were picked, and a most enjoyable game indulged in. Between the innings an adjournment took place to the pavilion, where luncheon was provided by that genial old cricketer (Mr K. Dixon). The game finished shortly after 5, when the whole of tho players were driven back to Mr Dixon’s, and partook of a most substantial repost. The play, considering the youth of the players, wav very (air, and gives premiss that wo have plenty of the old name coming forward to figure in tho cricket field. Ihe rides ware captained by Masters 11. West and F. Aehbcdt, the principal scorers being, for the winners, F. Barlow (16), F, Asbbolt (16), and H. Dixon (9) ; and for the loser*, K. West (14), W. Barlow (13). The came resulted in a win for Master Ashbolt’a *ide by eight wickets, the scores being—West's side : First innings, 26 ; second, 52. Asbbolt’s side : First inning'** 59 ; second, 28, with two wickets down. A match will take place to*day, at Petone, between tho second eleven of the Pbconix Club and eleven from the railway workshops. The Phcooix will be represented by tho following : .Messrs C, and W. G. Gulden, Dhcrwcod, Shaw, Bridge, Howe, Benson, Grucson, Former, Sim, and H. B. Spence, Tho Senior ami Junior Cup matches will he continued on the Basin iiciiorvo this afternoon, at 2 o’clock sharp.
