BLASTING ACCIDENT AT THE THAMES.

Thames, November 22 A serious mining accident occurred this afternoon in the Caledonian Low Level Co.’s working?, resulting iu severe injury to three miners named Samuel Howard, Alfred James, and Nicholas Peirce. The men had charged three holes with blasting powder which they proceeded to explode by u spitting ” the fuse. One of tho charges exploded instantaneously, throwing the three unfortunates down in the drive, but the earth displaced by the other two shots fortunately passed over their pros* (rate bodies. James and Howard were badly burned, but their eyes escaped injury. Howard suffered the most seriously, the thumb and index finger of his left hand being shattered to such an extent as to necessitate amputation. Pearce escaped with severe con* lesions.
