FATAL TRAM-CAR. ACCIDENT.
A fatal tramway accident happened in ‘Susaex-equare on Saturday night at about halfpast 8 o’clock, the victim being a boy named •Frederick Williams, aged 14 years, son of Joseph Thomas Williams, of Normanby-street, and employed by a baker in town. The deceased boy was standing on the front platform of the first of two tram-cars, which, drawn by an engine, were proceeding in the direction of Newtown. Just as the care were passing round one of the corners in Sussex aquare, he lost his hold and fell on the road, the wheel* of the last car passing over his shoulder and right leg. A man named W. H. Rodgers was standing on the platform near him when he fell, and his father was at the other end of the car. The tram was at once stopped, and the boy, who appeared to be quite dead, was picked up and conveyed to the Hospital. _ Dr. ■GUIon examined him, and found that his injuries consisted ©f a compound dislocation of the left shoulder, with comminuted fracture, a ■bruise over the calf of one of his legs, a scalp wound and some internal injuries. By the time the body reached the Hospital life was -extinct. The deceased formerly lived with Mrs Compton, of the Lower Hutt. An inquest on the body will probably be held to-day.
