The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,900,000 quarters, being a decrease of 50,000 quarters during tho week. There are no changes to report in tho money or produce markets. At the wool auction to-day 11,200 bales were offered. A fair demand was experienced. September 30. The Bank of South Australia has declared a dividend of 5 per cent, for tho past half-year. The Government has issued a notification announcing the existence of a smallpox epidemic at Capetown, and declaring the Cape to be an infected district. Mr E. D. Gray, M.P. for Carlow, who was sentenced in August last to threo months’ imprisonment and to pay a fine o£ £SOO for publishing in the “ Freeman’s Journal ” certain articles reflecting upon the Judges and jurymen engaged in a recent agrarian murder trial, has been released from custody. Vienna, September 30. Serious anti-Jewish riots have occurred at Pressburg, a town in Hungary, about 35 miles east of this city, and containing 46,000 inhabitants, of whom 7000 are Jews. The emeute lasted a considerable time, the mob defying the authorities. Martial law was proclaimed, and is still enforced in the district. Alexandria, September 30. The grand review of the British army took place at Cairo to-day, abd was a most imposing spectacle. The Indian contingent are now under orders to return, and will leave at cnca for India. The Guards do not leave Egypt until October 30. Sydney, September 30. The strike of iron workers in this city has been virtually settled, the masters having conceded an advance of Id per hour upon the present scale of wages. Melbourne, September 30. The supposed smallpox patient at Hamilton died to-day. The Victorian revenue for the quarter ended 30th September amounted to £1,320,000, being an increase of £33,000 as compared with the corresponding quarter of last year. The total revenue for the year ended September 30 amounted to £5,620,000, being an ■ increase of £317,000 as compared with the previous year. Lavinia and Phorcus have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. The appearance of the British and Indian Contingents excited universal admiration, on account of their splendid physique, the latter especially eliciting praise. Over the Khedive’s pavilion flashed along with the Egyptian Standard the Royal Ensign and the Onion Jack. The diplomatic members were present in full force, and the crowd was immense.
