MASTERTON.

The Institute Committee met last night, there being a full attendance of members. An interesting discussion took place in reference to opening the reading-room on Sundays. On a division being taken, it was found that there were only two members against the proposal. It was therefore decided to open the room between the hours of 2 and 5 p.tn. on Sundays for three months ; to commence on Sunday next, the Ist October. An inquest was held at the Empire Hotel on the body of M. Poulson, who died suddenly on Tuesday last at Braneepelh Station. From the: evidence of Pedev Andersen, his mate, it appeared deceased had been ailing for some few days. A post mortem examination was made by Dr. Beard, who deposed that the body appeared fairly healthy, but on examination he found the internal organs considerably diseased. He found pluero-puenmoaia in the right lung of from three to five days standing. This was theimmediate cause of death The heart and liver were also fatty, and the kidneys diseased. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony. A man named James Miller was brought before his Worship the Mayor charged with vagrancy. He was discharged with a caution. A return match will be fired this afternoon at the Mania range between the Masterton and Carterton Volunteers.

The Kurupuni Public Hall was opened lasi night wuh a concert and soiree. The pro gramme was carried out to the satisfaction of a very large audience.
