FEATHERSTON.

(FROM ODE OWN CORRESPONDENT). September 28.

There seems to be every probability of a Company being formed to prospect the Wairarapa district for coal, as great interest seems to be taken in the matter, several letters having appeared in the local papers lately on the subject. Over £2O has already been subscribed towards the fund of the library and public reading-room. I hear that the balance of the cheese made at Messrs Gilpin and Pardon’s factory last season, has been disposed of to a merchant in town at a fair price. These gentlemen have certainly shown that such factories can be worked with success.

The comet was seen to great advantage this morning about 4 a.m. It is a magnificent sight, and should be seen by every one. It would be interesting if “Observer,” or any other astronomer, would give the public all the information as to its orbit, and what comet it is tupposed to be—the one of 1812, or Donati’a of 1858. I saw the latter in Australia, but I do not think it can be compared to this one in splendor.
