A USEFUL HINT.
TO THE EDITOE OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sie, —As there has been a sudden death of a child from croup in this city, it may prove of service if the following remedy, taken from a London paper some time since, were made public through your columns. I cannot recollect the name of the medical gentleman who published it, but he stated that in a hundred cases he had only known it unsuccessful in one case. I have tried it myself with a family of six children, and never found it fail in curing them in a very short time, and, what is better, . they have not had it since. Until I tried it
they used to be aneotea reguiaL.jf winter. It is as follows “ One teaspoouful of powdered alum, mixed with two teaspoonsful of sugar, and dissolved m a little water, say half a wine glassful.” I used the above according to the age of the child, about a teaspoonful of the mixture being given for a child three or four years of age, and in half an hour another if the first lacked effect. The dose may be repeated as occasion requires. The late Dr. Harding was asked about this cure, and stated it was an old one and very good,—l am, &c., Paterfamilias. Wellington, September 26.
