MASTERTON.

Michael Foulson, a Mauriceville settler, died suddenly at Brancepeth station last night, about 7 o’clock. The deceased was about 45 years of age. and has been bush-felling for Messrs Beetham Bros, for some time past. An inquest will be held at Masterton this afternoon.
The Masterton Borough Council met last night, when the matter of the proposed loan was brought forward. Tuesday next, October 3, is the day fixed for holding a public meeting of the ratepayers ia reference to the same. The proposal to procure a steam fire-engine was also discussed, but the matter was allowed to drop pending the result of next Tuesday’s meeting. The weather for the past two days has been very boisterous. About 10 o’clock last night a thunder storm commenced, and continued with slight intermission until about 8 o’clock this morning. There are now signs of tho weather clearing. The new Public Hall at Knripuni will be opened to-night, with a soiree and concert, a license for the Hail having been granted on the certificate of the Borongh Surveyor.
