CUSTOMS DUTIES CONSOLIDATION ACT, 1882.
; One item of the results of the late session of Parliament will, we think, be appreciated by the mercantile community—we allude to the Act for the Consolidation of the various Tariff Acts under which duties have been hitherto levied. Ail former Acts are repealed from the 15th of the current month, their place being taken by the Consolidated Tariff Act, which, however, has introduced the few alterations shown, as herewith subjoined, all the goods mentioned in which are now free of doty :
List of Artisles added to Free List in Schedule to the Customs Duties Consolidation Act, 1882. Bellows’ nails and tacks Blind webbing Brace elastic and brace mountings Bookbinders’ staple presses, wire staples, and s taple sticks Butter cloth Duck in the piece ■ Forfar sheeting in the piece Paintings, statuary, and works of art presented to or imported by any museum, public library, or other public institution, for use therein, or for public ex* hibition Saddlers’ straining, surcingle, brace, girth, and roller webs, collar check, and legging buckles Scythes Stayznakers’ jean, ticks, lasting, eatteen, cotell, binding, eyelet-holes, and corset fasteners Surveyors’ steel bands Tailors’ brown linen, striped and checked drills, hessians, union body-linings, jeans, pocketiogs, buckram, wadding, padding, stay-binding, buckles, and buttons Articles and materials (as may from time to to time be specified by the Commissioner) which arb suited only for and are to be used and applied solely in the fabrication of goods within the colony. All decisions of the Commissioner, in reference to articles to be admitted free, will be published from time to time in the “ New Zealand Gazette.”
