Sydney, April 3. The statement of the “ Sydney Evening News" regarding the arrest of nine sailors of H.M.S. Cormorant, in connection with the death of Lieutenant Luckraft, at Santo Island, is now declared to be without foundation. Beyond the fact that a strict investigation has been ordered, nothing further has transpired. The reticence of the officers is being severely criticised by the Press of this city. April 4. The Colonial Treasurer has communicated with the New Zealand Government with reference to the missing ship Min-y----don, of which nothing has been heard since‘she sailed from Newcastle for Lyttelton with a cargo of coal on February 11, requesting that a steamer should be despatched to search for her. It is feared that she has foundered at sea. Melbourne, April 4. . Arrived, this morning—The P. and O. Company’s steamship Indus, with inward Suez mails, dated London, February 24. Also, Union Company’s steamship Alhambra, from the Bluff.

LATEST.—2 a.m, London, April 3. Consols have declined to New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations;—Five.per cent. 10-40 loan, 104; 5 per cent, 1889 loan, 104£ ii per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 103. The market rate of discount has fallen to 2i per cent.; Bank rate, 3. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, has advanced to 54s 6d ; New Zealand ditto remains at fils ; Adelaide; flour, ex store, 37s 6d. . Australian Tallow—Best mutton has advanced to 42sj and beat beef to 455. The total stock of tallow in London oh the Ist instant was 6300 casks. The latest intelligence to hand with regard to the loss of the steamships Douro and Yrarac Bat states that 46 passengers have lost their lives by the disaster. Of these 30 were on board the Yrarac Bat and 16 on the Douro.
