SERIOUS FIRE AT KUMARA.
(UNITED press association.) ■ • Kumaba, April 4. A destructive fire brake out at half-past four this morning in the Church of England parsonage. The Eev. Mr Holland and Mrs Hoiland, with a servant girl, had time to escape with their lives, without saving anything. The parsonage was burned to the ground. It was insured for only £3O in the Union Office, although recent additions coat £7O. Mr and Mrs Holland lost their all. The reverend gentleman had a valuable library of over 400 volumes, and a large collection of Chinese and Burmese curiosities. All his notes of his travels, which he intended to publish, are lost. He estimates his personal loss at £SOO. Many things can never be replaced. The inmates only escaped half clad. Great sympathy is manifested, and a subscription list has been opened at the “Kumara Times” office. The fire is supposed to have originated in the sitting-room fireplace.
