A DEPLORABLE STATE OF THINGS.
Auckland, November 2S, At the Wesleyan District meeting, the liev. ' Thomas Buddie, who had just visited the Late district, described the state of the Natives about Rotorua as nearly quite neglected, they having at present no Christian ordinances. They were to a deplorable extent victims to intemperance. The newspapers lately published the fact that two Natives had been mysteriously found drowned in the warm springs one morning. There was no myeteiy about the matter, as he had seen one of these victims late on the previous evening maddened with drink. Everywhere in the district the Maoris were levying blackmail, and spending the cash in drink.
