Mr. XV, H. Trapp, tor tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, offered for sale yesterday, at their wool warehouse, Custom House-quay, a quantity of wool. Ac. Tho attendance was limited, and prices ranged from 6d to Sid per lb. for greasy, and up to Is for washed cross-bred. This effort at establishing colonial wool sales is worthy of encouragement,-be-canse it would be a great convenience, especially to small farmers, to soli their wool at once after shearing. Competition would secure them quite as much profit as they get now, and they would not have to pay interest on advances. Mr. George Thomas reports selling at auction yesterday Black Swan tobacco in bond, Is Sd; do duty paid, 3s 6d; white herrings, duty paid, 10s per cwt: Canterbury hams, 6{d per lb; currants (casks), 2jd; cheese, Cd to 7s; tether lines, Os: clothes lines, 7s; wheat, 3s; XXV sugar [(Melbourne), 40s; 1C do do, 395; Morton’s pickles. Os; do salad oil, pints, 10s 3d: do do do, half-pints, 6s: Lea and Perrin’s sauce, X2s Sd; Bell and Black’s plaid vestas, os; Colman’s starch, 4Jd; O. Jones’ do, 33d; Capo raisins, 4dGeorge Thomas reports markets as follows: —Flour (Adelaide) very scarce, £l3 to £lB 10s; colonial (Oainaru), £lO 10s to £11: oats, 4s 3d to 4s 6d; bran. Is: wheat, 4s to 4s 3d; hams. XOd: bacon, 9d: cheese, Sd, scarce; maize, 5s to 5s Od; pollard, 7s; butter, Sd; potatoes, 7s to 8s per cwt. Mr. Duncan’s land sale yesterday afternoon was well attended, and tho bidding was spirited. Mr. T. K. Macdonald kindly officiated, in the unavoidable absence of Mr. Duncan. Tho sales effected were as follows:—Lot D. corner of XVebb and Hopper-streets, 80ft and 40ft frontage, with six-roomed house, threeroomed cottage, and stable, £775, R. Port. I’oildlng —Section 1.
