The Czar has instructed the Russian ambassador to demand acceptance by the Porte, within ■ forty-eight hours, of an armistice, and immediate suspension of hostilities, otherwise relations between Russia and Turkey will be broken off.
General Igaatieff will leave Stamboul. The Russian- ultimatum is due to the defeat of Servians and the entreaty of Prince Milan for aid from Russia, as the Turks continued to advance:

The British expedition has returned to Valencia, having found it impossible to reach the North Pole.
