CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A Special General Meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce was held at the offices of Messrs. Bethune & Hunter yesterday, when the following members were present:—J. Johnston, Esq., (Chairman,) G. Hunter, Esq., (Deputy-Chairman), Messrs. Hort, Moore, Woodward, Vennell, Bethune, Stokes, Allen, Taine, Bowler, Bannatyne, Anderson, Lyon, Carter. Rhodes, Hickson, AV. W. Taylor. It was moved by Mr. Hout, seconded by Mr. Stokes, — That the Members of the Chamber of Commerce have heard with deep regret of the demise of Adam Cumming M‘Donald, Esq., a member of this Chamber, and its Committee. They therefore desire to record their high sense of his moral word), of the courtesy and urbanity with which he discharged his duties as Manager of the Union Bank of Australia; and of the loss which the whole mercantile community has sustained by his death. They also take the opportunity respectfully to express their heartfelt sympathy for Mrs. M‘Donald, and the other members of the family, under this sad and unexpected bereavement. The Resolution was unanimously adopted by the Chamber, and the Secretary was directed to forward a copy to Mrs. M’Donald.

Wk have great pleasure in publishing the following correspondence on the presentation of an Inkstand by the Choir of St. Peter’s Church, Te Aro, to E. Withers, Esq., QuarterMaster of the 65th Regt., on the occasion of his leaving Wellington. Mr. Withers for the last three years has taken the deepest interest in the choir, and it is entirely owing to his exertions that it has attained its present high state of efficiency. We understand that it is the intention of the members of the congregation to shew their respect for Mr. Withers and their sense of his exertions by presenting him with some memorial of their good will oil his departure.— Te Aro, September 18, 1858. Dear Sir, —We, the Choir of St. Peter’s Church, having learned with deep regret that it is your intention to take your departure with the 05 th Regiment, have resolved to present you with this inkstand as a token of our gratitude and esteem. Hoping that you will accept it with our sincere wishes for your welfare, Wc remain, Dear Sir, Yours, on behalf of the Choir, SAMUEL DIXON, WILLIAM CHURCHILL.

E. Withers, Esq., Quarter-Master, 65th Regt. Wellington, N. Z., September 19, 1858. My dear Friends, —I cannot describe to you with what pleasure I receive! the very handsome inkstand you have been pleased to present me with, on my resigning tlie charge of the Choir of which you are members, —that Choir over which I have presided for the last three years (with what success I must leave others to say.) Believe me when I tell you that I shall always look upon this token of your esteem with pleasure and pride, and shall consider it an heir-loom in my family, and feel sure that my children will cherish it when I am no more; and 1 can assure you that through life I shall look back with pleasure to the time that I have spent among you, and I only regret that circumstances over which I have no control oblige me to resign the charge, but in taking leave of you, it is my most sincere wish that success may attend you all in your various occupations through life, and believe me when I subscribe myself, Your sincere friend and well wisher, E.
