New Zealand Spectator, May 9, 1857. STOCK IN THE BONDED WAREHOUSE.

The Heroes of Alma arrived last Sunday, bringing a large and assorted cargo, which (with previous arrivals) will quite fill the hands of our merchants for some time to come. The sales of the week, although not numerous, have evinced a greater degree of activity than has been lately witnessed. At the Hutt market on Wednesday a considerable amount of business was done : among private sales we beard of 5 fat bullocks sold by Mr. Barton at. £l3 each, and 150 wethers, for which we believe 18s. was obtained. Messrs. Bethune & Hunter also sold one or two horses (one for £-10), and various other transactions in slock took place. By Auction, Messrs. Bethune & Hunter also sold one or two pieces of land on the Hutt Road (more than half way to the Taita), at the rate of £67 10s. per acre. Mr. Horner sold : s its fx for £34, a cow for £lO, and a lot of pigs, all of which brought good prices ; and Mr. J. H. Wallace sold 3 head of cattle at £8 10s to £lO each, a cart for £2l, and two horses, at £2B and £32 each. Altogether In the town Messrs, R. J. Duncan & Co. had a sale on Thursday at which 13 bales of Wool brought Is Cd per lb , 4 bales do.
