WAIPAWA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday it was decided to add a croquet lawn ,to the present courts. A billiard match, 1009 up. has been arranged between Mr G. Pirie, of Waipukurau, and Mr W. Fox, of Waipawa. As a result of the benefit social tendered to Mr J. Moroney, who had a leg broken whilst playing football, the sum of <£4o is to be handed over to him. Eathier a novel method of bringing the wants of the town before the powers that be is being carried out here. For some years past the inadequate accommodation provided at the local railway station has been brought before the authorities, but with no effect. It has now been suggested that a number of photographs of the premises be taken (for which local residents have subscribed), and a copy be sent to prominent members of the House, to allow them to judge for themselves as to whether the present antiquated premises (the hen-coop, as it is known locally) are sufficient for the requirements of a district that supplies such a large amount of revenue to the Railway Department. In connection with the foregoing paragraph, it is rather a striking coincidence that three of the officials employed there have been on sick leave within the last three months, due, in a measure, to the conditions under which they have to work. , The eclipse of the moon was (despite the statement of an authority that it would not be visible in New Zealand) viewed under the most favourable circumstances, the sky being particularly dear.
