At the Sandown Park meeting, the Hook Two-year-old Plate was won by Mr Hennings’s ch c El Re, by The Rush or Valesquez—Blavatsky, and the Sandown Stakes by Mr Lionel Robinson’s bar f Costly Lady, by Ladas—Corsterphine. Marvel Loch stands at 14 to 1, while the others are unchanged. LATEST BETTING. MELBOURNE, October 30. Betting over the Melbourne Cup continues only moderate. Scot Free has been supported for another £2OOO at 100 to 8, after which 10 to 1 was the best offer. Warroo has been backed to win £2OOO at 100 to 10, closing at Bto 1. A . largely-attended meeting of the Auckland Racing Club was held this afternoon to consider the decision of the committee n6t to allow bookmakers on the Ellerslie course. The meeting was convened in response to a requisition bj about fifty members. A motion was pro> posed with a view to rescinding the committee’s decision. The argument® rested with the Hon E. Mitchelson, who defended the committee’s action, and Mr W. Hackett, who championed the cause of the bookmakers. There was a majority in favour of the committee’s decision, so that bookmakers will not be permitted to do business at Ellerslie next Saturday. The voting was 99 for the of bookmakers, and 78 against.

WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. The monthly meeting of stewards was held. on Monday afternoon. The appeal was heard of A. Hall (owner of IN uma) against the decision of the Otaki Maori Racing. Club in . disqualifying Nnma for the Hack Hurdle Race at the recent spring meeting. Evidence was given at considerable length by Mr Haaraia Te Whenna representing the Otaki Club, A. Hall, W. Young, and Geo. Walls. The stewards decided ti Hall’s appeal, tlie weight of evident go* ing to show that, the horse blundered badly at the first fence, completely spoiling his chance of winning. The stakes will, therefore, be paid over to A. Hall, and the race awarded to Numa. Mr J. H. Pollock was appointed handicapper for the ensuing racing season.
