There are a number of estates in the Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, and Auckland districts under offer to the Government for the purpose of close settlement. The chairman of the Land Purchase Board, Mr A. Barron, will probably leave this week for Hawke’s Bay, to commence inspection of the estates. By the s.s. Tongariro,. which has left for London, four wreaths were shipped by various New Zealand branches of the Navy .League to be placed on the Nelson monument, Trafalgar Square, on October 21st. In addition to the frozen wreath already referred to in these columns, the Wellington branch also sent a floral anchor as a; tribute to the memory of the gallant Frenchmen and Spaniards who fell at Trafalgar.
