AHAURA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The great success which attended the recent poultry show held in Reefton, has stimulated the energetic portion of the community to form a horticultural association. A public meeting has been
called for this purpose. ~ The adjourned meeting in connection “ with the forthcoming sports to be held on Labour Lay was held in Stevenson's Hotel on Thursday evening last in the Council Chambers, Mr Scantlebury in the chair. The sum of <£so was voted for prizes, the principal events to be chopping and sawing. Prizes are. to be given for best decorated vehicles, etc. The canvassers eo far have been very successful. The Inangahua Braaj Band journeyed to the Globe Hill on Sunday last and rendered some most* excellent music, which was highly appreciated by tho-so resident there, to whom the members of the band are much indebted for practical support. It is with regret that I record the
death of another of the pioneers of the West in the person of Mr John Thomas, late of Ahaura. He had been in the Grey River Hospital for some time previous to his death, which occurred in that institution. Heceased was highly respected by all who knew him.
