Although there would have been room for many more couples at the ball given by the Parnell Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in the Federal Hall last Thursday evening. Those who were there seem to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Quite the prettiest dress in the room was that worn by Mis W. J>. Dutbie, a rich silk of a delicate shade of blue, the corsage of which was finished with rare white lace with garlands of tiny pink roses. Mrs Houghton, black accordeon-pleatad chiffon inset with cream insertions; Mrs Tewsley, blue satin, the skirt of which Was trimmed with handsome white lace while the corsage was finished with pearl passementerie; Mrs Gredg, black crepe de chine with white lace tucker; Mrs Napier, eau de nil silk, with lace and chiffon on the bodice; [Mrs Derry yellow silk with chiffon of a paler shade: Mrs Steggall, black taffetas with tucker of white chiffon-and la’fge pale blue chou in the corsage; Mrs "Ernest Davis, black lace with rare lace berthe; Mrs Favitt, cream voile banded with cream insertion, white chiffo-n tucker finished with- white violets; Miss Hargreaves (Christchurch) rich corded heliotrope .silk with white lace berthe; Miss Ireland brown silk; Miss Minnitt, Mack beribboned net made up over black satin, and wide Wack satin oeinture, and Miss Saunders (Melbourne), blue glace silk inset with perpendicular bands of cream lace applique, and with cream lace and blue velvet ribbon putting the finishing touch to the corsage. Mrs Harold Thomson, of Inglewood, ia at present in Auckland, and is staying with her mother, Mrs Dargaville, at Rem u or a. Mr Horace Walker and Miss Walker (Mount Eden) have left for a tour of Australia. Aug. 24th.
