WAKEFIELD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The schedule for the third Spring Show in connection with the Waimea Horticultural, Industrial, and Poultry Association ie being circulated. The schedule shows an improvement on the last Spring Show, especially in the poultry section; this, no doubt, is on account of t .e great interest taken in our district in poultry breeding. Entry-lists and copies of the rules of the Association may be obtained from the Secretary Dr W. R. Pearless. . The show will be held on Wednesday, 22nd gkNavember, 1905. It ." The Nelson Education \ *>rd are con- -• sidering the advisability i>, erecting a . =-building for technical classes in Wake-i-.fleld. Already a number of ladies have l-eignified their intention of joining classes for cookery and dressmaking. It now re--

mains to be seen whether sufficient members are forthcoming to form a class in woodwork. These, with the pupils attending the pnblio school, should warrant the erection of a building. The Australian footballers, together with the members of the Nelson Rugby Union, drove up from Nelson to Wakefield yesterday, and spent some time here. They were unfortunate in having a dull day and threatening weather to view the Waimeas. They drove round the three bridges, and appeared pleased with their trip. The Wai-ifci Literary Society held their weekly gathering last Friday, when a large number of the members from the Wakefield Society drove up and fraternised with them. Dt Hamilton occupied the chair. A long and varied programme was gone through. Solo® by Mrs Watson, Misses Faulkner, Hoult, Connie Hoult, Waters, and Mead; duet by the Misses Higgens; recitations by Rev. O. R. Hewlett (President Wakefield Society), and Messrs Mead and Harris, and a reading by Miss Prentice. The subject for the next debate is "Does Education tend to lessen Crime P" The usual votes of thanks were tendered.

At Motupiko yesterday Mr John George Quinney was married to Miss Agnes Maria Mears m St George’s Church by the Rev. O. R. Hewlett. The bride was given away by Mr Fred Brewerton. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mies Morrison, in a few well chosen words, presented the bride with a souvenir as a token of their love, and to signify the esteem in whioh she was, and still is, held by thte parents, friends, and children of Motupiko. Miss Mears has been a teacher in the Sunday-school for over five years. The bride looked lovely in her bridal attire. the Church was prettily decorated, the school children marched to church and assisted in the singing. Miss Baily presided-at the organ. The Wakefield Literary Society’s meeting took place last night, Dr Hamilton in the chair. The subject for debate being "Has the granting of the Franchise to Women Benefited New Zealand There was a full house, and quite a large number of Wai-iti members came down. Two of their members, Messrs Tvo Tunnicliffe (affirmative) a.nd E. 9. Hoult (negative) opened the debate. Misses Prentice and Faulkner and Messrs Peart, Wilson, Johnson, and Mrs Tunnicliffe supported Mr Tunnicliffe, while Messrs McKenzie, O’Connor, Peppin, and P. Baigent upheld Mr Hoult. A lively debate ensued, evoking much laughter. But the result maintained that women exercise an intelligent vote, and are. a power for good, which will be seen as years roll on. The voting resulted in 46 for and 21 aga.irut the motion. Next, week .is ladies’ night, when Miss Faulkner, lately frrim Home, will occupy the President’s chair.
