LAND FOR SETTLEMENT
COMPULSORY ACQUISITION. AMOUNT PAID TO DATE. A return presented to Parliament last week gave some interesting particulars of estates acquired by the Government under the compulsory clauses of the Land for Settlements Acts. This showed: —
since March 31st, 1905—Lindsay 75, Flaxbourne 83. The tax values of the estates were:— Ardgowan, <£31,246 ; Hatuma, <£117,920; Kumeroa, <£21,680; Forest Gate, .£29,760; Argyle, .£103,095; Matamata, .£109,635; Lindsay, £87,244; Flaxbourne. £120,509. The amount formerly paid by these estates in the way- of land tax was £4616; the cost of survey, etc., was £4l 907. Value of estates acquired u# fce March ions-
