EGMONT AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION
In 1895 Messrs Lovell and Christmas, of London, presented a trophy to the Egmont A. and P. Association for the best exhibit of lewt of cheese made prior to 31st May preceding the show, but-suitable to place on the London, market at date of show. The terms were that the trophy valued at £SO had to be won three times (hot necessarily consecutively) before becoming the absolute property of the exhibitor. The trophy was supplemented by a cash prize from the same firm of : £lO IQs to the actual maker of the cheese receiving first award. In 1902 - the trophy became the property of the Ngaire Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, Taranaki, which had previously won it in 1898 and 1 R 99. Messrs Lovell and Christmas, Lim*ted, have now given a very handsome cup "valued at £BO, which will be awarded to the same class, but must be won three times in succession or five times at intervals. before becoming the property of the exhibitor. The trophy, which is • of sterling silver, on an ebony founda^ * tion, bears the inscription on a silver plate:— Presented by Lovell and Christmas. Ltd., London, ... ' to the Egmont A. and P. Association for The Best Exhibit of Cheese for Export. Open to all New Zealand. 1905. As in the previous case, ther trophy will be supplemented by a yearly cash prize of £lO lCte to the actual maker of the exhibit. Generosity of this nature greatly assists Agricultural Societies in. their endeavour to benefit the colony as a whole, and is worthy of imitation. We reproduce a photo of the cup, supported by Mr James Kowin, the popular representative of Messrs Lovell and Christmas Co., Limited.
