WAIPAWA.

The Waipawa Rifles fired the final match for the Williams' Medal on Wednesday last. In the first competition for this trophy the donor, Private T. Williams, was successful in winning it and handed back to the corps for another contest, together with a silver medal fore the highest scorer. The scores were as follows: Captain Collett 184, Private Peters 174, Private Cullen 171, Private Jas. Miller 171, Sergeant Pellow 160, Colour-Sergeant Gebbie 150.

An enjoyable social and dance was held on Wednesday evening. The vocalists included the Misses Curreen and Boyle, and Messrs Cosgrove and Molloy. Miss M. Moroney played the music for the dancing, which was merrily indulged in till the early hours of Thursday. Mr J. A. G. Cosgrove was M.C. The Waipawa Rifles will go into camp on Tuesday evening for their annual week of instruction.

The vital statistics for the Waipawa district at the close of December, 1904, are as follows: Births, 111; marriages, 23; deaths, 28. The birth rate for the last quarter of 1904 was much in excess of the preceding three quarters. Recent close settlement may be taken in association.
