FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR JOHN PLIMMER

The 'funeral of the late Mr John Plimmer, Avho died on Thursday, took place on Saturday afternoon. Those who followed the remains to the grave included many leading citizens and representatives of all classes of the community. The five sons of the deceased were, Avith other immediate relatives, the chief mourners. Amongst those present were the Hon Colonel Pitt, Attorney-General; the Mayor of Wellington and Councillors Murdoch and Winder, Mr John Diithie, M.H.R., the Rev Jas. Paterson, the directors of the Wellington-ManaAvatu Railway Company and Mr W. M. Hannay (general manager); Mr M. Kennedy, managing director of the "Noav Zealand Times” Company; Mr T. W. McKenzie, a felloAv-pioneer of Mr Plimmer, and many other old settlers. The route of the procession Avas from Mr Plimmer’s late residence by way of Wellington terrace to Bolton street Cemetery, Avhere the interment took place. The services in the mortuary chapel and at the grave A\ r ere conducted by the Rev R. Coffey, vicar of St. Mark’s Church. The many beautiful wreaths sent by private friends and public institutions included those from the directors, head office staff, and Library Society of the Wellington-Manawatu Raihvay Company, the ‘‘New Zealand Times” Company, the officers of the General Post Office, the members of the Williamson Dramatic Company, Sir Kenneth Douglas, Mr A. H. Turnbull (W. and G. Turnbull ancl Co.), and others. In addition to the massages of condolence previously mentioned as having been received by the family, there was one from the Rev Father O’Shea, and another from Mr F. A. Krull (Wanganui).
