Boxing Day shone out gloriously, and a large number took advantage of the day. From early morning picnic parties were seen wending their way in different directions, and by afternoon the wharf Avae crowded Avith gt-Ay-dressed people to Avftness tlie regatta, Avhich Avas a great success. Much sorroAV Avas felt in town on Wednesday when it became knoAvn that Mr J. Buchanan, of the National Bank, had passed aAA r ay at the Grey River Hospital.
Mr Buchanan only arrived in Greymouth a feAV weeks ago from Invercargill. It is thought he caught cold on the trip overland, and that it settled on his lungs. He was so 111 on Boxing Day that he had to be removed to tne Hospital. Deceased was only 83 years of age, and leaves a foung wife and child, who are still m nvercargill, _and who were ignorant of his illness. They have the sincere sympathy of the whole community. The Misses Driscoll, of Nelson, are m Greymouth for the holidays. During their stay they will be tbe guests of Dr and Mrs Mcßrearty.
