(From Our Own Correspondent.)
There was a numerous attendance at the annual summoned meeting of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge, 1.0. Oddfellows, on the 29th ult., and the following officers were elected: —G.M., Bro. McKay; W.G., Bro. L. Pratley; V.G„ Bro. Gradwell; E.S., Bro. E. Collett; auditors, Bros. H, C. Collett and T. Carson. The lodge decided to purchase the section adjoining their hall. For (he Christmas holiday season the weather was delightful. Picnic parties congregated at favourite trysting places, and everyone in good health made- gladsoma holiday. For the New Year holidays the weather was dull in contrast. Slight showers fell and the days were gloomy. The streets were almost deserted and very little business was done, and foreboding prophecies about the weather for the morrow and two succeeding days. Rain fell on New Year’s Day afternoon and continued at intervals til’, next dawn; though the weather remained fine it was cold and windy, and very unpleasant for out-of-door recreation. From a financial aspect the holiday season was a good one. and a very satisfactory feature was the general subrietv, and no accidents were recorded locally. There were races at Ha-stings, sports at Napier, Danuevirke, and Onga Onga.
