Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received tlie following cablegram from their London office, dated 20th inst:— “ Since the date of our last telegram, prices are slightly lower for fair to good qualities of- New Zealand rabbitskins. Inferior qualities are lower by -id to Id per lb. There is an increasing demand for butter at prices somewhat in sellers’ favour.” MASTERTON STOCK REPORT. Lowes and lorns, Ltd., report as follows regarding their Masterton sale on Friday:—We submitted a very large yarding of sheep, the quality, generally speaking, being the best we have offered for a long time past. There was an unusually large attendance of buyers, and bidding was spirited for all classes; yet in several eases owners’ reserves were in advance of the market, and business had to be done privately. One line of wethers only remained unsold. Wethers were keenly sought after, lambs and ewes in lamb selling at advanced prices. Over 500 head of cattle were also offered, hut competition was irregular. Fullgrown bullocks sold at full values, young beasts also selling well, whilst middleaged cattle received but little attention. The following prices were obtained: Fat ewes, 13s 9d to 16s; forward wethers for turnips, 16s 3d to 16s sd; good conditioned stores, 15s 7d to 15s lOd; culls. 11s 5d for very small and poor to 13s; ewes in lamb. 12s 9d to 14s 7d, and as high as 17s 3d for specially good in high condition; empty ewes, 11s to 14s 3d according to condition; lambs, 10s to 11s Od for woollies, 7s lid to 9s lOd for poor to good shorn; forward bullocks on account of Mr N. Moore, of Hikurangi, good quality stuff, £6 7s 6d to £6 9s 6d; cows and calves, £4 _los to £5; plain butchers’ cows, £4 to £4 12s 6d; empty cows, £3 ss; 2-year steers, £4 to £4 9s; good weauers, 36s 6d to £2 7s; fair, 26s to sls; pigs (slips), 12s 6d to 20s. LONDON PRODUCE MARKET. The Department of Industries and Commerce lias received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, the 21st instant: — The mutton market is weak. The output is unsatisfactory owing to the demand being chiefly for prime light carcases, which are scarce. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton, lightweights, is 4|d per lb, and 4-fd per lb for heavyweights. The average price to-day for other brands of North Island mutton is 4d per lb. The lamb, market is steady, owing to the demand having been stimulated by the fine weather that has set in. The average price for Canterbury brands is s’cl per lb, for brands other than Canterbury s|d per lb. The beef market is quiet. The aver-, age price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 3id per lb. fores 2id per lb. There is a better demand for butter. Buyers are chiefly speculators, but the supplies on hand aro heavy. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 88s per cwt., Danish 965. The cheese market is steady. The reduction in price has caused more business to be done. The average price of finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 40s per cwt. The hemp market is dull. Price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot, to-day, is £3l per ton; May to July shipments, £3O 10s. The price of Manila hemp, fair current grade, on spot, to-day, is £34 10s per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is steady. The average price for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, to-day, is 52s per cwt. Wool sale has concluded. The market is firm, with hardening tendency; many buyers are operating heavily. There is general confidence in the maintenance of present prices. Estimated values fine crossbreds lid to Is, medium 9d to 10id, coarse 8d to lOd, superior merinos llld to Is l-£d, medium 9d to lid, inferior 7d to B£d. Frozen lamb. —-The market is firm, but there is not much demand.” Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 18th inst :—"Tallow. —Since the date of our last telegram, tallow in general is lower by Is per cwt., and a further decline in prices is generally expected. There will be no public sales of tallow next week.” The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report as follows: —At our fortnightly sale on Friday we offered 16 bales and 20 bags of wool, about 1500 skins and a quantity of hides and tallow. There was a full muster of buyers, and competition was keen for all good lines; shortwoolled, bad pelted skins were somewhat neglected. The wool offered was

of inferior quality generally, and sold at: —For coarse crossbred fleece, 4|d to 6fd; pieces, 33d to sf-d; crutchings, from 3RI for seedy, up to sjd for clean, fine quality. For sheepskins we quote. —Merino to 7a; fine crossbred and half bred, 6|d to 6fd; coarse and medium crossbred, 51 dto 6:\d; crossbred (bad pelts), 47]d to old; dead and broken skins, 3kl to 4kl; lamb skins, 4d to 6-1 d; green, skins, 2s 6d to 4s 3d. Pelts from 6d to Is 6d each-. Hides, ox to 23s 3d; cows from 7s 6d to 17s 9d each. Tallow, in tins and small casks, from 16s to 19s per cwt. Abraham and Williams.—At Mangaweka—Forward cows £3 13s 6d, fat' cows £5 6s, heifers in calf £3 18s to £4 6s, weaners 36s 6d to 36s 9d, 18month steers £3 3s; 4-tooth wethers 15s 7d, 2-tooths 13s 9d to 14s Id, forward ewes 12s Id, ewes in lamb (culls) 7s Id to 11s, f.m. do. 15s. At Palmerston —Prime fat ewes 16s Bd, a few prime fat lambs 13s 6d, forward ewes 13s to 13s sd, store ewes, 12s sd, lambs 11s Id, small lambs 6s lid to 9s 2d, cull ewes 6s, 3 and 4-year bullocks £5 15s to £6 'ss, 24 and 3-year Is to £5 4s, forward cows £4 to £5 2s 6d, yearlings £2 7s, weaners 25s to' 355, small weaners 5s to 11s; sows in pig £2 2s, baconers 35s 6d, slips 9s 6d. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report.—At Fitzherbert East —Cows to calve in the spring £5 to £l2 2s 6d, late calvers £3 to £4 10s, weaners 275, yearling Jersey hulls 30s, heifers in calf £4 to £4 16s, yearling heifers £2 10s. yearling steers £2 ss. FRIDAY’S WOOL AND SKIN SALES. Levin and Co., Limited, report:— We offered sixty bales of wool and 4000 sheepskins, a large number of hides and a quantity of tallow. The wool sold at full rates, being obtained for good ciossbred. Crutchings sold at 5d to 51 o' for good and ,4?d to 5d for medium. Seedy crutchings sold at 3kl. Skins— There was very keen competition for skins, and every lot was taken up eagerly. We quote: Merinos, to 7d; half-breds, 6RI to 6:|d; fine crossbreds, 6d to 6-id ; coarse crossbreds, 53d to GRI; short wools, 4.]d to sd; dead, 3id to 4d; lambs, okl to Gd. Hides —There was a good entry, and the hides were in better order. When vendors flay and preserve hides properly they may rely on good returns. Good ox hides brought as high as 28s. We quote: O'x hides 24s to 28s, cow hides 12s to 17s. Tallow —Station fat 18s, good mixed 20s to 21s. Murray, Roberts and Co. report:— We offered 50' bales wool and 3060 sheepskins to a good attendance of buyers. Prices were very firm all round, some lots of coarse woolled skins showing an advance on late rates. Tlie wool was stragglers’ lots, and mostly in wasty condition. We quote :—Wool—■ Fine crossbred and halfbred, 7d to 84d per lb; medium do., fair condition, 6£d to 7d; seedy and dirty do., s.£d to 6|d; pieces and bellies, 3-jd to 43d; crutebings, 4d to 53 d; lambs’, to 7d. Sheepskins—HaUbreds and crossbreds, fine sound pelts, 6d toTj-3d per l\b ; crossbreds, coarse to medium do., 53d to 64d ; crossbreds, inferior pelted, 3£d to j crossbreds, short wools, 33d to od j lambs’, 5-id to 6-Jd. FROZEN MEAT. Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 19th inst.: — “Since the date of our last telegram, prices for New Zealand crossbred mutton are lower by one-eightli of a penny per lb. There is a poor demand for beef, and any change in price is in favour of buyers. Frozen lamb—The market is firm, but there is not much demand” LONDON, May 22.
