WAIPUKURAU.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) An accident befell one of the railway, engines last Monday morning. It was being turned on the '"turntable,” when it moved round, while the table was only halfway in revolution. Fireman Leitch jumped on the van and applied the brakes, but the head of the engine pitched into the road below, remaining in that position, the tender being on the rails. Apparently the only damage sustained was to the cow-catcher, which was crumpled. The engine was speedily raised.
The previous Saturday a serious accident happened in the station yard.- A number of trucks ran off the line while being shunted, tearing up the line, and damaging several of the trucks. The accident was caused by a mistake made in working of the points. The porter who was responsible for the accident was suspended, pending an official enquiry. May 2lst.
