Whittington. A circular, re dates of meetings, was received from the Metropolitan Club. It was decided to submit the following dates: —Wednesday, 9th November, and 'Wednesday, 22nd March, 1905. Mr J. Carter was appointed caretaker. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting next July. Some routine business was transacted, and several small accounts passed for payment.

Mr F. Quintrell, who Avas the resident Methodist minister of the Waipawa Methodist Circuit s>me years ago:, was last Sunday ordained Deacon of the Anglican Church by the Bishop of Nelson, and appointed to the charge of the Collingwood parish.

The Choral Society are assiduously practicing, and report considerable progress. It is probable that the cantata will be produced early in July. The announcement of the'death of Mr George Lloyd came with suddenness upon his friends. On Friday last he was apparently in his usual health, but during the afternoon he had an apoplectic seizure, flwd passed away on Monday moiming. The deceased lived-in this town for many years, and at ione time owned considerable property in Richmond Park, a suburb. He was also a former proprietor the Tavistock Hotel, Waipukurau. lie had acquired a large circle of friends, who deeply deplore his decease. The development of our resources iu the direction of laud for building sites is proceeding apace. A. few months ago a piece of land, some five acres, fronting to Church and Rose streets was placed upon the market, it- being subdivided into small allotments. Purchasers were forthcoming, and the last portion was sold a few days agio. The purchaser com templates extensive orchard and garden improvements, and will erect a commodious residence fronting to Rose street. 2Tn old identity in the house line was demolished last week to make, way for a new building. It was about fifty years old, and a type of the prevailing architecture of its period of construction, even to the wood gutters which were placed below the eaves. The remains of barrels to hold the rain water so gathered -were to be seen not very long ago. The building was untenable, being in great disrepair..

Commercial circles now include Mr J. F. Sutherland, who has opened a pharmacy replete with new and up-to-date supplies of goods pertaining to a chemist’s shop, in the building once occupied by Mr T. F. Moore, Mr Sutherland was well and favourably known in Wellington. Telephone bureau communication was established on May 19th between axpawa, Onga Onga, Tekokino, Wakarara, Makaretu, Ashley Clinton, Tamamu, Patangata , and Elsthorpe, the eight named nlaces after Waipawa, are country

districts, varying in distances eight mile® to twenty miles, and the convenience of telephone communication will be of incalculable service to the settlers, and aq. immense economy of time, physical fatigue, and use of horses. At a sitting of the S.M. Court, held on the 19th inst., the Hawke's Bay Rabbif Board sued the following persons fop failing to destrr# rabbits:—H. Bpeedy* F. Morrison and J. B. A. Deane. In two cases a fine of «£1 with costs was imposed, and in the third a fine of 10s with costs. The second fixture of the first round in th© cup matches under the control of the Rugby Football Union was held lasf Wednesday, on the Empire grounds, b©4 tween Pohukura and Waipukurau. The weather was spring like and very dry; Victory rested with the Waipukurau team who secured too tries, neither of which were converted, to a converted try by Pohukura, the score standing G—s. Flank and Drower scored for Waipukurau, and Hunter scored and Hohu safely negotiated the kick for Pohukura. The scoring was don© in the first spell. In the second spell Waipukurau was forced on three occasions and had to acl) on the defensive. The play as a whols lacked combination and science, being of an individual character and strictly egotistic. Mr Gebbie was referee. An unfortunate accompaniment of barracking in terms calculated to cause unpleasant consequence, and reflecting most unkindly, and in many case unfairly, upon the play proceeding, marred the comfort of the more silent and courteous section of the large attendance of spectators, and it is hoped that the Union will initiate steps to prevent a recurrence of the annoyance. The Waipawa football team played their second game in the same round as the above Clubs on Wednesday afternoon-, against Ormondville, on the grounds of the last named Club, and secured a win by nine points( three tries) to three points (one try). The scorers for Waipawa were W. Moloney (too tries), and Lord (one try), Sugden crossed the line for Ormondville. The ground was very rough and prevented an open game. Mr F. Bailey was referee. The County Council received and dealt with tenders for delivering 600 yards of metal on the main road. Hatima. as fol-lows:—-McKay and Sinclair Is 6d per yard (accepted), A. Edwards Is lid, J, Devereux Is lid. The natives will hold 1 their annual ball on the Ist June.
