The cup matches commenced here under favourable auspices on Saturday last when tbe weather was splendid. A large crowd gathered to see the local team try conclusions with tbe Hawera team. After a very interesting and closely-con-tested game, the Hawera men were victorious Tby 3 points, a try scored by Hunter.

We have a large number of returned troopers along this coast, who, in conjunction with the remnants of the Armed Constabulary, are arranging a reunion for June Ist. An energetic committee of fifteen has been appointed to arrange all the details.

The .annual meeting of the Ping Pong Club was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Wednesday evening when there was a fair attendance. It was decided to open the season in a fortnight. Everything oromises well for a successful winters’ amusement. The local constable—Mr Hickman—is at present in W-allington enjoying a welldeserved holiday. On the eve of his departure a'number of his friends presented him with a travelling bag and rug as a mark of their appreciation of the able and agreeable manner in which he discharges his duties.
