(From Our Own Correspondent.! At a meeting of the Pahiatua Hospital Trustees held on the 2nd inst., Nurse Miller, of the Napier Hospital, wow appointed matron of the Pahiatua Hospital in succession to Nurse Carston, who has been appointed to the Waipukurau Hospital. Nurse Carston left Pamatua on Saturday to take up her new duties in Waipukurau. The Lev. Father Duffy, who has become very popular during his i'lOit sojourn, is severely i'll. Dr Dawson, of Pahiatua, and Dr Cahill, >1 Wellington, performed an operation on tne . ev. gentlemen for kidney trouble, and up to* the time of writing there is every indication that the operation was' successful. His many friends will wish Fatner Duffy a speedy and complete, recovery. Mr D. Crewe, Mayor-elect of Pahiatua, was installed into the Mayoral chair at the Borough Council Chambers on. the 4th inst., when speeches of welcome were made by various Councillors present. The Mayor returned thanks for tne sentiments expressed towards him, and hoped that he and the Council would alw’ays pull togeuier in the best interests of the borough. On Thursday night the Mayor entertained the Councillors at a dinner in the Club Hotel.

We have experienced a long spell of glorious weather lately, frosty mornings followed by perfect uays. This, however, has its drawbacks, as water has become'very scarce, and in instances some householders are compelled to visit, their neighbour’s well with a bucket in order to keep supplied.
