AHAURA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) I regret to have to record the death of Mr Jacob James, who fc<r the last thirty-five years has carried on the local brewing trade here. The decease' d had reached the long age of 81 years. and was father-in-law of the late Mr W. H. Jones, solicitor, Grey mouth, who died ; n Wetjtern Australia. Tlie remains ef the late Mr James were interred in the Ahamra Cemetery. Mr Jamas Bishop has been appointed manager o-f the State coal mine- The appointment is considered a most satisfactory one.

A local writer here, whose effusions have often appeared in the press in different parts of the colony, had o ecu si on to enter the printing office of one of our West. Coast papers. A number of smart youtlts were present, and a practical joke wals dried on the man of verse, which, however, failed. So, looking round the room, he picked up a piece of paper and 'wrote thereon, while smiling:—

O'er all the world, ’tits a. fact well-known. Each printer hath one devil cif his own ; But here the rule hath an. exception, for I find the number hath inoreas-a 1 a score.
