AHAURA

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

It is with sincere regret, that I record the death of Mrs Fitzgerald, late- of Reefton, and formerly of Orwell Creek, daughter of the late Mr John Gilmore, whO jlbr many years was baker and hoin that township and in Halfounce.' Having had to undergo a seveire. ( operation at the hands of Drs Conlep and Scott, of Reefton, her com stitution, never of the strongest, was unable to bear it, and she pafesed away a few days afterwards in the Reefton Hospital. A wide circle of friends deeply regret their loss, and sincere sympathy is felt for her surviving relations dn their sad bereavement.

Some time ago the Grey County Council caused a footpath to be made, extending from the township towards the railway station, but the Ahauraites rarely avail themselves of the improvement, giving as a reason that the path is of too rough and shifty a nature, making one take a step backward for evenly two forward. I would suggest to the powers that be the laying on of a layer of some fine binding material from end to end of the f ootpath. This, if backed uip with a coating of rough metal on the roadway, would have' the effect of making a nice, smooth pathway , and also tend to keep down the growth of '.spreading blackberries.
