Th© weather was overcast and the going a trifle heavy for the second day of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Tauber cnikau racecourse on Monday. The public attendance: was about an average one, but speculation on the totalisator was not quite so brisk as on the corresponding occasion in 1903. The racing generally was good, and in two races there were hard struggles that left results in doubt -until the last strides. The public displayed a nice capacity for sorting out winners, and there was only one dividend of over £6 paid during the day. This was returned to backers of Capulct in the Autumn Handicap, in which event that raking son of Lethe won all out after a punishing finish with Oudenarde, who probably lost first place through a matter of s£lbs overweight put up by her rider. The only double of the day was landed by Bounce, a game horse that has lately bi-oken the sequence of seconds that made his racing career unprofitable for the greater part of a twelvemonth. Kaimoe, who by winning the Hurdle Race gained himself a winning bracket for the meeting, is a greatly improved horse since he blossomed out of hunters’ hack company last New Year. The management of the meeting _ reflected credit on the stewards, and especially on the secretary (Mr E. A. Laery). The totalisator receipts for the day totalled £5866, being £852 less than those of Easter Monday in the year preceding. The respective totals for the two meetings were £11,538 (1904) and £11,903 (1903). Following are details of the races:—* Te Ngarara Hack Hurdles, of 55 sovs. One mile and a half. 137 Mr C. F. Vallanee’s b g Kaimoe, aged 9.13 (A. McMorran) 1 96 Mr J. D. Armstrong’s ch g Gipsy Jack, aged 9.13 (S. Jackson) ... 2 72 Mr H. Austin’s ch g Haerere, syrs, 9.5 (R. Arnott) ... ... 3 Also started—l 46 Seaweed 10.12.

Haerere jumped clear at the fall of the flag, Kaimoe close up. * As they passed the stand Kaimoe still Gipsy Jack running last with a pull onT Seaweed moved up here, but at the third hurdle he clouted heavily and was done with thereafter. At the back of the course Gipsy Jack moved up, his fencing being very''good, and by the time the straight was reached lie was neck and neck with Kaimoe. There was a dingdong race from this point to the totehouse, but Kaimoe drew out in the last • fifty yards and won by two lengths, Haerere four lengths behind Gipsy Jack Time, 2min 59 l-ssec. Dividend, £2 19s. Rototawai Handicap, of 100 sovs. Six furlongs. 174 Mr J. Reside’s b g Bounce, 4yrs, 7.6 (T. Carroll) ... ... ... 1 95 Mr C. B. Piiarazyn’s Good Intent, 4yrs, 8.3 (J. From an excellent start the field ran in two divisions to the first turn, Montague, Mata Kokiri and Black Squall being the leaders. Black Squall gained the lead a hundred yards from the post, and held it to the finish, Montague being second, a length behind, with Letheiine and Rosepetal in close quarters. Time, lmin 17Rec. Forest Light was the last horse to move. Perilla got away well, and led to the rear of the course, where she was supplanted by Silverlene. In this position the field galloped to the straight, where Wideawake (who had run in third place from the jump) fell away, and Rebounding Lock came on the outside faster than anything else m the race. When the horses moved off Immersion made fast time on the outside, and with Good Intent soon led the field. Oudenarde running last. The leaders gradually dropped back to the ruck, and with six furlongs gone a drought cloud would have covered the lot. Oudenarde moved np at the business end, and her victory was proclaimed, but Capulet finished gamely and won by a neck, Livonia, and Sunfish finishing nose to neck (for third place), half a length behind Oudenarde.
