THE BEAUTY DOCTOR
There is an old proverb which runs. “Gold can do maA, but beauty more.” In the heart of every daughter of Eve there is the desire for this magic touchstone by which all men may be made subject to the will of its nossessor. for this witchery of beautv which casts a spell upon those who have eyes to see. Beauty! The ugly woman gazes in the mirror with despair, and sighs for some charm which would change that brown skin to fair, -which would smooth out those crow’s feet round the eyes. Tho plain woman studies despondently the downy upper lip, the mole on the right cheek, the heavy eyebrows meeting across the nose, and she too. would give ten years of pin-money for an incantation which would dispel those ugly details on features that would otherwise be charming. Cheer up, dear women without beauty. Plain you need no longer be. Into your midst have come some sisters of mercy who will take pity on you—for a consideration —and will heal you of all disfigurements whatsoever. Have you moles, moustachios, budding beards? Have you veins in the nose, wrinkles, crow’s feet ? Have you heavy eyebrows that meet across the bridge? Have you—oh, whisper it —have you that scarlet signal of distress, a red nose, which comes not from alcohol, but too much tea? Take courage. These things may he removed. The only magic spell you need is the “open sesame,” £s d. Those mystic letters will unlock the door of the beauty doctor, for it is by that gracious title that the physicians of plainness may be known. The harmfulness of beauty culture lies not in the removal of real disfigurements, hut in the use of noxious drugs and cosmetics, which endanger the health of those who use them without adding in the lc ist to their personal attractiveness. —“l)aily Mail.”
