MARINE INQUIRY
GISBORNE, February 13. An inquiry was held to-day by the Collector of .Customs into the stability of the ship Grace Harwar, which recently had a severe experience on her passage .up the coast. All the evidence went to show that the ballast was sufficient, that the vessel was . nc-t tender, but thoroughly stiff under canvas, and that more ballast could not have obviated the damage to the vessel, which was attributed to meeting a tidal wave. DUNEDIN, February 13.
At the marine inquiry into the drowning of Gustaf Wa bib erg, the sailor who was lost overboard from the schooner Zior at Otago Heads on Ist December, the Court found that the captain was blameworthy for not having lifebuoys on; board. There was not sufficient evidence to show that the captain was made aware that the man was subject to fits or otherwise unable to perform his duties as an able seaman. The captain was ordered to pay the costs of the inquiry. !
