CHRISTCHURCH, February 13. To-day 3000 fat sheep, 3000 fat lambs. 10,000 store sheep, 442 cattle and 344 pig’s were yarded. Fat cattle —164 were yarded, mostly cow and heifer beef, with a few prime steers. The demand was weaker, and there was a decline of Is per 1001 b, best ruling at from 21s 6d to 23s ; others, 17s 6d to 21s; steers, .£6 15s to £8 10s; two prime bullocks, £lO ss; heifers, £5 15s to £7 12s 6d; cows, £4 17s 6d to £7 10s, and up to £9 5s for extra heavy. Fat sheen—There were very few good wethers, the majority being unlSnished sorts, and a weaker demand ruled. Heavy weights, 20s 4d to 21s; freezers, 18s to 19s; light and unfinished, for grazing, 16s to 17s 6d. There were too many ewes and the market was irregular, with a decline for all sorts. Best, 16s to 18s; others, 12s to 15s 6d; prime merino wethers, 15s 6d to 15s lid; and poor sorts, 10s Id. Store sheep were mostly wethers and lambs. Except for good young sheep, which about held their own, there was a decided decline, but the bulk of the yarding changed hands. Prices, which showed no improvement on last week's, were: —Best bullocks, £7 10s to £9 10s; medium, £5 10s to £7 ; best cows and heifers, £6 10s to £8; ordinary, £4 to £6. Fat sheep—l 347 were penned. Considerable numbers were ewes in good to prime condition, the balance good wethers, and a few pens store ewes, and wethers. The sale was dull and prices were barely on a level with last week’s.
