THE PENNANT MATCHES. ' After repeated unavoidable delays, the third round of the Pennant Matches of the five local bowling clubs was played on Saturday. The beautifully-situated Newtown, ground was the scene of the encounter between the Wellington and Victorian Clubs, while Petone met Newtown ao the Tliomdon Club’s green. Idle- lastnamed club secured a bye. There was a good muster at the Newtown green, which was in capital order, but the high, uncertain wind was against good bowling. At the Thorndon green, the representatives of the Newtown Bowling Club easily defeated Petone, the teams skipped by Price and Bary accounting greatly for that defeat: Newtown. VICTORIA CLUB. The following games were played on Saturday:—lnglis, Harland, Stuart and Willis (skip), 22, beat Chapman, Penty, Flinders and Patterson (skip), 13. J. Hendry, Nicholson, Port- and W. Hendry (skip), 21, beat Hamer toil, France, Dickerson and Baggett (skip), 18. G. Hendry and Price (26) beat Turnbull and Dixon (16). Norwood and Ivellow (21) beat Cory and Fowler (19). A successful smoke concert was held at the club’s pavilion on Friday evening. The president (Mr F. Townsend) presided-, and! there were about forty members present. Trophies were presented during the evening as follows : —Senior Bowls, Mr Jas. Brackenridge: Junior, Mr F. Willis ; Club Fours, Messrs McGowan, Gaudin, Brackenridge, junr., and Redstone. The members of the teams that attended the Christchurch and Gisborne tournaments gave• graphic? accounts of the different games played, and all spoke in terms of highest praise of the hospitality shown the visitors. The gold medals won by the rink which visited Christchurch were much admired, and the framed certificate which accompanied the medals was handed to the club, to be hung in the clubroom. The chairman took occasion to remind the members present of the necessity of lining and furnishing the clubroom, so that members could meet socially and enjoy many smoke like the present. The idea was taken up heartily, and about £l4 was subscribed in the room towards the cost of the necessary work. Songs and recitations were contributed by Messrs Mack, Martin, Schultz, Trevor, Ilueston and McMorran; and Messrs C. R. Stuart and Dickerson added to the enjoyment of the evening'-wii.-V several selections from the graph/phone. THE EDWIN BUCKLES. At- a meeting of the directors'of the Newtown Bowling Club, held last Friday night, opportunity was taken to thank its members for the manner in which they upheld the reputation of the club at the Christchurch tournament,- Mr Bright-well having distinguished himself by winning the Championship Singles, while Mr Underwood stood fourth on the list. The full rink (Messrs Blyt-b, Price, Bary and Prince), too, was complimented on its fine stand, being beaten by the champion rink only, although both teams were on level terms at 'the fourteenth and twentieth heads. AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR ENGLAND The work of selecting the team to represent Australia in England and Scotland during the next bowling season is being proceeded with. The team (the “iS-.AI. Herald'’ states) will comprise players from New South Wales, Victoria, and New Zealand- The time for receiving nominations from those desiring to form portion of the team expired on Saturday, and Mr Cuddon, the lion, secretary of the Australian Bowling Association, under whose auspices the team is being selected, has received nominations from New South Wales and Victoria. The New Zealand men have also ueen selected, but their names are not yet to hand. The following, however, are the New South Wales and Victorian players who have notified their willingness to go if selected : New South Wales : John You no- (Annadale Club), S.
