ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

LETTER FROM LORD GLASGOW

Any communication from our former GoA r ernor or the Countess of Glasgow is always acceptable to many readers, who Avill, therefore, find interesting the folloAving letter, received yesterday by the secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association :

Keiburne. Fairlie, N.B. 24th December. 1900

Dear Mr Fisher, —I ought before this to haA-e acknowledged your letter of the 16th October. It Avas very kind of you to Avrite it, and Lady Glasgow and my family, as well as myself, are much pleased to read the report you sent, and to knoAV that the work of the St. John Ambulance Association is being carried, on so satisfactorily. It shoAvs the intea-est which is taken in your work, that you haA r e been able to organise a fully equipped horse ambulance for Wellington, Avhere it must prove very useful. I doubt not that ere long all the large centres Avill be provided Avith similar equipments. I Avell remember the presentation of certificates at Dunedin, though I cannot quite remember which year it Avas. I should not be surprised if some of the men Avho received certificates on that occasion are iioav in South Africa, and have been able to turn to good account Avhat they learned as members of the' association.

I am happy to say that Lady Glasgow and my family are Avell. They all look back with pleasure to their stay in Ngav Zealand, and are collected here for the Christmas festival. My youngest daughter and her husband are paying a A r isit to the colony at this moment. Again thanking you for your kind letter, I am,

Yours truly, GLASGOW
