Four and a half tons of green oak will make a ton of charcoal; of pine, six tons. Twelve pounds of charcoal are equal to 101 b of coal.
Some of the machines for making matches which are used in these days make 200 revolutions a minute each, and turn out aboxit 2,500,000 matches daily.
