ROWING.

WELLINGTON ROWING REGATTA.

The Wellington Bowing Regatta, postponed from the previous Saturday, on account of the death of the Queen, was successfully carried out on Saturday at Petcne. The huge attraction offered in Wellington of a visit £1)0111 the Imperial troops, served to materially diminish the usually large attendance at this event. It may be said that only oarsmen were present, with a sprinkling of those closely identified with the local reaving world. The water was eminently suitable, and the weather remarkably finei. It was a regular day out with the Canterbury representatives, who were a well-trained lot and in splendid fettle. The Southern “reps.” pulled off four events out of a card of seven and only lost the Senior Double Sculls by a. piece of untoward misfortune. The two Canterbury crews were fighting out the finish between them—-Hardy-Johns ton’s boat leading—when O’Callaghan’s boat fouled the culvert near the wharf and capsized. Immediately afterwards the leading boat ran aground. Wellington (Silencer Brothers), until that moment apparently badly beaten, seized the opportunity, and rowed in the winners. Calnan and Crawford (Wellington) once more vindicated their claim to the championship of New Zealand in the Senior Pairs' by defeating Bendall and O’Callaghan (Canterbury) with consummate ease. That promising sculler, P. G. Hutchinson, won the Senior Sculls, the prize being a trophy—a handsome salad bowl —presented by Mr Edward Pejarce, a former president of the Star Boating Club, in addition to £5. Calnan was the runner-up. The committee desires it to be known that it has an ample prize fund. The following are the results of the day's racing:
